Hanukkah



Hanukkah is also called the Feast of Dedication and Festival of Lights. It is an 8 day holiday with the remembrance of rededication of the Holy Temple at the time of the Maccabean Revolt in Jerusalem against the Seleucid Empire.

It celebrates according to the Hebrew calendar and begins on the 25th day of Kislev and may occur at any moment from late November to late December. People celebrate it by singing special poems and songs, lighting candles and reciting Halel prayers.

It observed with the lighting of lamps, candles. An amazing candelabrum that consists of 9 branched hanukiah or menorah is the main item for this festival. People often eat latkes, doughnuts and other oil based foods.
